But today’s biggest news were revealed by Nicky, when he CONFIRMED that he will be returning to Dancing With The Stars Ireland next year! This comes a little over a month after RTÉ announced that the show would come back in January 2018. We can’t wait!
The show was a massive hit for RTÉ One during its first run, racking up an average weekly audience of 584,000.
RTÉ One Channel Controller, Adrian Lynch, said: “Dancing with the Stars is one of the big jewels in the crown of our New Season, the full details of which we’ll be announcing later in the summer. We’re looking forward to working with ShinAwil Productions again on this exciting show.”
Meanwhile, Producer Larry Bass, expressed his excitement for the big news: “We’re delighted to be back producing such a sensational show after a fantastic first run. I look forward to the search for more fleet-footed celebs to be put through their paces and light up our screens this year.”
The big question is, though, will Nicky return to host the hit series? No specific news have been released on the presenters, but Nicky would be more than happy to come back: “That would be great to do again, I’d love to do it if the opportunity arose. It was a great show to do and a busy show to do, but I think everybody enjoyed it.”
JNLR day is here and the numbers are in: The Nicky Byrne Show has gained 8,000 more listeners, giving them a total of 139,000 – Congratulations!
Dan Healy, head of RTÉ 2FM, said he was delighted with the performance of his channel as “a challenger brand.” He said it was over two years since a conscious move was made to go after a younger audience. The new policy meant 2FM lost its older listeners and figures were declining but now it has enjoyed back-to-back listenership growth.
Picture thanks to Jenny Greene.
He was delighted that Nicky’s show enjoyed significant audience growth and he attributed it to talent and hard work. “He’s a guy who probably doesn’t have to work, I assume, but he comes in with a massive work ethic,” he said. He praised Nicky’s fellow broadcaster on the show Jenny Greene and how both worked so well together since she joined him. “She didn’t like Westlife, she didn’t fancy him, so you’ve got a really interesting kind of chemistry there,” he quipped.
