Westlife to lead Childline concert packed with stars

Kings of Irish pop Westlife will headline this year’s Childline charity concert, it has been revealed.

The phenomenally successful four-piece will celebrate more than 14 years in the business with a sizzling set.

Dublin star Nicky Byrne will present the annual Cheerios Childline Concert, which features teen heartthrobs JLS, The Wanted, Parade and Jedward.

The dad-of-two said that the band were eager to play to the home crowd at the O2 once again.

“Westlife have a great association with Childline and it has a great line-up this year,” Nicky said.

“Childline is always a great night. We’ve been doing it since 1999 and obviously I’ve presented it a couple of times as well, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

The global superstars, all over 30, are embarking on a tour of Asia before returning to Ireland for the pre-Christmas show.

“Already we have The Wanted, JLS, Jedward and ourselves who will be performing, and there will be more names added, so it’s looking strong,” said Nicky.

“Tickets normally go out the door in a day. Tickets go on sale this Friday and all proceeds go directly to Childline, so that’s cool.”

Organisers are aiming to raise €400,000 in proceeds from the concert on November 12.

To date, Childline has raised a massive €3.8m since its first concert in 1997.

Everyone involved with the Cheerios Childline Concert are providing their services for free.

Nicky, Jedward and JLS on the bill for Childline

WESTLIFE’S Nicky Byrne will present the annual Cheerios Childline Concert for the second year in a row.

Nicky’s return to the concert as presenter is expected to generate further interest as tickets for the concert go on sale on Friday.

This year’s concert will see JLS, The Wanted and Jedward on stage at the O2.

And Nicky will return to his singing duties as Westlife are also tipped to perform.

The November concert is aiming to raise €400,000.

“We are delighted to be once again sponsoring the Cheerios Childline Concert which has over the past fourteen years become a firm favourite with concert goers of all ages,” said Alison Healy from Cheerios.

“We look forward to another great night at The O2 on November 12.”

Thanks to the exciting line-up, tickets are expected to be snapped up quickly by thousands of fans.

To date, Childline has raised a massive €3.8m since its first concert in 1997.

Acts including Boyzone, The Script, Robbie Williams, Alexandra Burke, Girls Aloud and Ronan Keating have taken to the stage over the years.

Childline says it is currently experiencing record levels of demand.

More than 800,000 calls are expected to be received in 2011 and almost half of those calls will go unanswered due to lack of resources.

Tickets for the concert are €45 and go on sale at 9am this Friday at
